On the Kojo Nnamdi Show

I’m thrilled to be taking the local wine message to the Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU 88.5 FM today, Wednesday April 18, at 12 noon ET.  The Kojo Show is local to the DC radio market, but of course anyone can listen online at www.wamu.org during that time.

The locavore movement is growing and for some people, eating local isn’t enough – they want to drink local too. The region’s wine industry has blossomed over the last few decades, but unpredictable weather and favoritism for European or California wines mean local vintages still have a long way to go. We take a look at the ways weather, culture and history combine to create wines unique to the Washington area.

I will be on with Todd Kliman, my buddy and a fellow champion of the locavore/locapour movement, and Dr. Tony Wolf, professor of enology at Virginia Tech. We’ll discuss the vagaries of producing world-class wine in the mid-Atlantic, from weather (inspired by my Washington Post column from last week) to historical prejudices against local wines. And of course, we’ll discuss whatever Kojo wants to talk about – and whatever listeners ask about through email or on the phone.
